Originally invented in 1770 by Abraham-Louis Breguet, the first self-winding movement was crude and unworkable. Over a century and a half later in 1934, and Rolex Chief Technician Emile Borer introduced the Rolex Perpetual movement, a slick, self-winding caliber small enough and efficient enough to be fitted to any Rolex watch.
